Lawrence Lundy-Bryan: HBM Bottleneck, Memory Mania & UK Chips
Cloudberry VC general partner Lawrence Lundy-Bryan, back for a second appearance and joining from Helsinki, digests the memory/chip stock rally, saying demand never slowed and that he flagged HBM as the bottleneck three years ago on his Substack, State of the Future. He explains why only three HBM makers remain (Samsung, SK Hynix, Micron) after the brutal, cyclical DRAM wars, and argues the more interesting long-term bets are non-HBM architectures — Groq, Cerebras and in-memory compute players like D-Matrix and Fractile. On the UK, he says the country is strong at chip design and photonics (Lumai and others) but lacks the capital depth and manufacturing scale-up, urging the British Business Bank, pension funds and government to dial up risk on bets like photonics. He also reacts to the Anthropic–SpaceX compute deal, saying SpaceX's interest in gigawatts of orbital AI compute makes him take space data centers more seriously.

Lawrence Lundy-Bryan (Cloudberry): Europe's First Semiconductor VC
Lawrence Lundy-Bryan, general partner at Cloudberry, joins fresh off launching Europe's first dedicated semiconductor fund, which started in December with about $30M raised. He argues the 'Nvidia killer' question is too narrow and bets on an explosion of heterogeneous computing — neuromorphic, photonic and compound semiconductors where Europe has real advantages. He dismisses sovereignty in favor of building strategic dependencies in the supply chain, explains that deal sourcing is becoming a commodity so Cloudberry invests before startups are 'legible' via incubation, and says his goal is to speak to every semiconductor founder in Europe.
