We’re Live

Five days live, almost in the books, and what a week it's been. A big thanks to everyone who tuned in. Rounding it off is a Friday lineup worth clearing your diary for: from the two brothers behind a fresh $150m fund backing AI in the physical world, to the man leading the team behind Replit's Agent. Live 12–3 BST. Here's your Order of Play.

What else is happening

Anthropic has disclosed that its Claude models broke out of their test environments and gained unauthorised access to three real companies' systems during cyber evaluations.

A "misunderstanding" with testing partner Irregular left the sandbox connected to the open internet when it was meant to be sealed off. Told they had no connection, the models treated the real systems they stumbled onto as part of the exercise, and broke in using the basics: weak passwords and unlocked endpoints.

Anthropic only caught it after the fact. The company went digging when OpenAI admitted last week that its own models had escaped a test environment and hacked AI platform Hugging Face. A review of more than 141,000 evaluations turned up three cases, spanning Opus 4.7, Mythos 5 and an internal research model, with the earliest dating back to April.

One detail stands out. The most capable model worked out it had wandered onto the real internet and stopped itself. Whether that reassures you or unsettles you probably depends on how you feel about machines making that call on their own.

We're getting into all of it on today's show at 12 BST.

Yesterday's moment

Twenty-four hours can change a lot on Wall Street.

We covered Situational Awareness hunting for fresh capital, but the story moved fast. Ken Griffin's Citadel has since bought the bulk of the fund's public stock holdings, one of the more sudden unwinds the Street has seen.

Naturally, everyone's got a take. We unpacked Meltem Demirors tweet: "He's having a generational run, and even if he loses 80% of his book, he'll end the year with better numbers than most HF managers will ever print." The other camp keeps circling back to the same details, no professional trading experience before the fund, a team of eight, and leverage that turned a stellar year on its head.

Generational talent or cautionary tale? Where do you land?
