Mark Zuckerberg has made his position on where AI should be headed crystal clear.
Slapping bans on cutting-edge Chinese AI is "not an effective solution," according to the Meta chief. Instead, he thinks the US needs to figure out where it’s actually falling behind and simply out-build the competition. It’s a direct jab at rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic, who have both lobbied for tighter reins on open-source models.
In short: compete, don't restrict.
But the industry is divided. While Zuckerberg is pushing for faster AI progress, more than 1,100 insiders from OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepMind, and Meta itself have signed an open letter urging Washington to help "pace the frontier." It's one thing for politicians to worry about AI risk — it's quite another when the people building these systems start calling for guardrails.
